My quilted wall hangings are created using my own hand-dyed and printed fabrics and fibers. I use fiber reactive dyes and water-based paints. Techniques include stamping, silk screening, rolling, shibori, stenciling, low water immersion, full immersion, resist and rusting. I often utilize found objects in the mark-making process. Fabrics are most likely to include cottons, linens and silks. Both machine and hand stitching are used in construction and embellishment.
During the creative process I often reflect on my own personal growth and development. I notice the trends, the ups and downs and the big picture of my being. I only rarely set out to express myself deliberately, but instead work intuitively and interpret my work as an outgrowth of my inner self on its journey through life. Themes I often see revealed include the juxtapositions of chaos and order, rigidy and acceptance, and upheaval and serenity.
